WILD WEST RUN - KILLARNEY - 13.1m Trail Run

The race is 13.1m TRAIL RUN between Kenmare and the grounds of Muckross House in Killarney National Park. The course follows the the final section of the 'Kerry Way' - the spectacular hiking route that meanders around the Iveragh Peninsula - a stunning setting. The route has been selected with a view to attracting all levels of athletes - runners; joggers;walkers - and has been designed under the watchful eye of former World Mountain Running Champion, and proud Kerryman, John Lenihan. The race will leave Kenmare by the 'Old Kenmare Road' where immediately theres a good climb to Windy Gap - at which point the route 'levels out' to an extent. Runners then continue towards Killarney National Park where eventually they will come down a steep descent alongside Torc Waterfall and into the grounds of Muckross House and Gardens. The last few miles are on the smooth pathways around Muckross House. Trail shoes are advisable WILD WEST RUN fully supports Killarney National Parks and environmental agencies in promoting and protecting Ireland's natural landcape, flora and fauna - as such we will provide water/refreshment and refuse stations along the way DIRECTIONAL MARSHALLS will be in place on the course, as well as SAFETY MARSHALLS in areas where conditions are slightly hazardous. MEDICAL STAFF will be in place for the event POST RACE PARTY to be held in the evening in one of Killarney's top venues Race organisers will be working with local hotels and guesthouses in order to secure preferential rates for our athletes. Details to follow. COACHES will be provided to the RACE START POINT for athletes who stay in Killarney on Friday 24th February. These are available also for runners who wish to leave their cars in Killarney/Muckross during the race. Cost of transfer is €7pp whhich can be paid online.
